THE FATHER OF LIES

You are born of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks from his own for he is a liar and the father of it. John 8:44

He lies in wait secretly, like a lion in his den; He lies in wait to catch the poor; He catches the poor when he draws him into his net. So, he crouches, he lies low, that the helpless may fall by his strength. Ps.10:9-10

If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire for you, but you should rule over it.” Genesis 4:7

The wicked are hostile from the womb; They go astray as soon as they are born, speaking lies. Ps. 58:3

IN SUMMARY

These scriptures reveal the true nature and operation of Satan as the father of lies. In John 8:44, Jesus makes it clear that the devil has no truth in him—lying is not just something he does, it is who he is. Every lie originates from his nature, and those who follow deception align themselves with his desires. From the beginning, he has been both a murderer and a destroyer, using lies as his primary weapon to separate people from truth and life.

Psalm 10:9–10 describes his strategy: he operates in secrecy, like a lion waiting in hiding, targeting the vulnerable and unsuspecting. His goal is to trap, deceive, and overpower those who are not alert. This shows that deception is intentional and calculated, not accidental.

Genesis 4:7 reveals a critical truth—sin lies at the door, waiting for entry, but it does not have to rule. There is a responsibility placed on individuals to resist and overcome it. James 4:7 says, “Submit to Jesus. Resist the devil and he will flee.” Satan’s influence is persistent, but not unstoppable. Also Job 22:23

Psalm 58:3 highlights how deeply rooted deception can become, showing that without truth, people can stray early into falsehood. Together, these scriptures reveal that Satan’s frequency is deception, but through awareness, truth, and obedience, his influence can be resisted and overcome.

IN ISAIAH 28:14-17 JUDAH IS WARNED BY GOD

14. Therefore, hear the word of the Lord, you scoffers who rule this people in Jerusalem!

15. Because you have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol we have an agreement. When the overflowing scourge passes through, it will not come to us, for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood we have hidden ourselves.

16. Therefore, thus says the Lord God, Behold, I am laying in Zion for a foundation a Stone, a tested Stone, a precious Cornerstone of sure foundation; [he who believes (trusts in, relies on, and adheres to that Stone] will not be ashamed or give way or hasten away [in sudden panic].

17. I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the plummet; The hail will sweep away the refuge of lies, and waters will overwhelm the hiding place.

IN SUMMARY:

In this passage, Judah is warned to turn away from deception and false security. The leaders, described as scoffers, had hardened their hearts against the truth of God. Instead of trusting Him, they believed they had secured their safety through their own agreements—symbolically described as a “covenant with death” and an agreement with Sheol. This reveals a deep spiritual perversion: choosing lies, falsehood, and self-made protection over the truth and covering of God. Their confidence was misplaced, it was rooted in deception rather than faith.

God exposes this false refuge, making it clear that anything built on lies cannot stand. The “overflowing scourge” represents coming judgment that will not be avoided by human schemes. What they believed would protect them would ultimately fail. This highlights how perversion operates—it distorts truth, replaces trust in God with reliance on false systems, and creates an illusion of safety that leads to destruction.

In contrast, God establishes a true and unshakable foundation: this foundation is Jesus Christ, the Cornerstone. This Stone represents a firm, tested, and precious foundation for those who choose to trust, rely on, and adhere to Him. Unlike falsehood, this foundation brings stability, peace, and confidence without fear or panic.

Finally, God declares that justice and righteousness will expose and destroy every lie. The refuge of deception will be swept away, and all false coverings will be uncovered. This passage reveals that only what is built on God’s truth will remain, while every form of perversion and false security will ultimately be judged and removed.

SIDENOTE EXAMPLE: Job conversing with His friends calling their proverbs ashes

[Job continued:] Behold, my eye has seen all this, my ear has heard and understood it.

2 What you know, I also know; I am not inferior to you.

3 Surely, I wish to speak to the Almighty, and I desire to argue, reason my case with God [that He may explain the conflict between what I believe of Him and what I see of Him].

4 But you are forgers of lies [you defame my character most untruthfully]; you are all physicians of no value, have no remedy to offer. Job 13:1-4

THE FATHER OF LIES HOW IT FITS (Explanation)

        Considering that it is said that we are in the end times let me show you a Biblical example of having discernment about the end times:

Job 13:1–4 reveals another dimension of “the father of lies”—not just direct deception from Satan but lies spoken through people who believe they are right.

Job’s friends thought they were speaking wisdom, yet Job calls their words:

  • “forgers of lies”
  • “physicians of no value”

This shows that:

  • Lies are not always obvious; evil can sound religious, logical, and convincing.
  • Perversion occurs when truth is misrepresented, distorted, or applied incorrectly.
  • The enemy can use human reasoning and false assumptions to accuse and condemn.

Connection to “The Father of Lies?”

  • Satan is the source of lies, but people can become carriers of those lies.
  • Just like in John 8:44, when truth is absent, even confident speech can be rooted in deception.
  • Job’s friends represent misguided counsel, speaking about God but not from God.

Spiritual Insight

This passage exposes a deeper level of deception:

  • Not only does Satan lie directly
  • He also works through:
    • False counsel
    • Misjudgment
    • Incorrect interpretations of God

Key Takeaway is: Not all spiritual-sounding words are truth. Discernment is necessary because lies can come dressed as wisdom, correction, or even “help.” So be careful about what you hear, see and understand. As Jesus was addressing the disciples about questions of the end times (Matthew 24) at a point Jesus told them to run also meaning to withdraw from such things that may deter you from following the Word. It is a MUST today that you saturate yourself in the Word of God so that you will know right away when deception is near.

Even though when we are born there is separation from God the outcome is still the same. For your hands are defiled with blood, And your fingers with iniquity; Your lips have spoken lies, Your tongue has muttered perversity. No one calls for justice, Nor does plead for truth. They trust in empty words and speak lies; They conceive evil and bring forth iniquity. Isaiah 59:1-4 Both these kings’ hearts shall be bent on evil, and they shall speak lies at the same table; but it shall not prosper, for the end will still be at the appointed time. Daniel 11:27

TO SUMMARIZE

Isaiah 59:1–4 reveals that separation from God is the direct result of sin, lies, and perversity. The people’s actions— their defiled hands, dishonest lips, and corrupt speech—demonstrate a life disconnected from truth and righteousness. Instead of pursuing justice or pleading for truth, they trust in emptiness and produce evil. This shows how deception not only distorts thinking but also corrupts behavior, creating a cycle where lies lead to more iniquity. Separation from God is not accidental; it is the fruit of choosing falsehood over truth Genesis 3:6.

Daniel 11:27 confirms that even when lies are strategically spoken and agreed upon, they will not ultimately succeed. Though evil may appear coordinated and convincing, its end is already determined by God. The outcome remains unchanged, falsehood will not prosper beyond its appointed time. Together, these scriptures emphasize that while deception separates and corrupts, it is temporary. Truth and God’s justice will prevail, and every lie will be brought to its appointed end.

Blessed is the one who places full trust in the Lord and refuses to be influenced by pride or deception. God sustains those who reject lies and remain anchored in Him, securing their stability, protection, and direction.

1 JOHN 5 SUMMARY FOR OVERCOMING THE WORLD

A Believer’s Identity, Love, and Victory

Verses 1–5 establishes the identity of the believer as one who is born of God through faith in Jesus Christ. To believe that Jesus is the Messiah is not merely intellectual it is an established faith—it means that you adhere to, trust in, and rely on Jesus completely. This belief brings new birth and places you into the family of God. God’s Love becomes the evidence of this relationship; loving God is directly connected to loving others who are also born of Him and those who are not. True love is not emotional expression but is demonstrated through the obedience of God’s commands. His commands are not burdensome because they are aligned with your transformed nature. The key emphasis is victory. Everyone born of God overcomes the world—not through personal strength, but through faith of Jesus and God’s Word. The “world” represents systems, influences, and deceptions under Satan. Victory comes by believing that Jesus is the Son of God and standing firm in this truth. Faith becomes the overcoming force that resists perversion, deception, and worldly influence. These verses reinforces that the Believer’s identity in Jesus Christ produces both love and obedience, and through this love, you can live in continual victory over the world’s false systems and lies.

THE WITNESS AND THE TRUTH

Verses 6–12 Summary presents the undeniable testimony of who Jesus is and the divine witnesses that confirms His identity. Jesus came by water and blood, this is His baptism and His sacrificial death, demonstrating both His mission and fulfillment of God’s plan. The Holy Spirit serves as the living witness, continuously affirming Truth because the Spirit is Truth itself. Together, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit testify in heaven, while the Spirit, the water, and the blood testify on earth. These witnesses are One in agreement, leaving no contradiction in God’s testimony.

The scriptures emphasizes that God’s testimony is greater than human testimony. To believe in Jesus is to accept God’s witness internally, having the Truth within. However, rejecting this testimony is serious—it equates to calling God a liar because it denies what He has clearly declared about His Son Jesus. The central message is that eternal life is found exclusively in Jesus Christ. Those who have Jesus possess life; those who reject Jesus do not. These scriptures compare truth versus deception, revealing that accepting Jehovah’s testimony anchors the believer in life, life on earth and life everlasting; while rejecting Truth aligns with the very nature of the father of lies.

Verses 13–21 finally provides assurance and confidence for Believers. It is written so that those who believe in Jesus may know with certainty that they already possess eternal life. This knowledge produces boldness in prayer—when requests are made according to God’s will, believers can be confident that He hears and responds. This establishes a relationship built on belief, not uncertainty.The passage also addresses intercession, encouraging prayer for others, with the knowledge of identifying between sin that leads to death and sin that can be repented of. It reinforces that those born of God do not live in continual, deliberate sin because adherence to Jesus Christ protects them. His divine presence guards the believer, preventing the enemy from gaining control. While the world operates under the influence of the evil one, believers are set apart and belong to God. This is assurance.

Finally, clarity is given. Jesus Christ is the truth and the only way to eternal life. The instruction to “keep yourselves from idols” is a warning against anything that replaces God in your heart. His Word concludes with a call to remain in truth, protected, confident, and fully aligned with Jesus and resisting every form of deception.

A PRAYER: Father God, Jehovah,

We come before You with hearts that choose truth over deception. I choose Jesus who keeps us steady when the world around us is unstable. Jesus, Teach us to trust in You fully and to reject every lie, recognize every perversion that tries to pull us away from Your Truth. When confusion arises, be our clarity. When weakness comes, be our strength. Holy Spirit, keep us discerning, alert, and grounded. Let Your truth that live within us guard us from all sin. May our lives reflect Your righteousness, and may we stand firm, unshaken, and unwavering in faith.
